A warning has been issued from the Louisiana state health department after two recent deaths that are thought to have resulted from “brain-eating amoebas”, that enter people’s brains through their sinuses while using nasal-irrigation devices known as neti pots.
the two victims are believed to have filled their neti pots with tap water, which contained the deadly amoeba naegleria fowleri, instead of distilled or sterilised water. The parasitic organism then infected their brains with a neurological disease that quickly destroys the neural tissue and kills the victim after a couple of days.
